Born in central China and based in London since 2016, I began working with clay during the pandemic—a time when the quiet, grounding nature of ceramics became the center of my life. Mostly self-taught, what started as a daily ritual slowly grew into a devoted practice.

Yuan Workshop was founded in 2021, first in a communal studio, now in a shared space in southeast London with five other potters. "Yuan" is the name my grandparents gave me—it carries the sound of simplicity and childhood joy, which I hope to echo in my work.

I focus on hand-built stoneware tableware—pieces that bring warmth and presence to daily life. Using transparent glazes to reveal the clay beneath, I embrace a primitive, tactile way of making that honors both material and memory.

Each piece is made in small batches or as part of thoughtful collections. I explore themes of nostalgia, simplicity, and a childlike sense of wonder. One of the best things I’ve been told is: “Just looking at the plate made me happy.” That’s everything I hope for.

I accept commissions, collaborate with shops and creatives, and was selected as a TOAST New Maker in 2024. My pieces are available through releases throughout the year, with updates shared via Instagram. International shipping is available.
